Men's Track Has Rough Trip At State Meet

Men's Track Has Rough Trip At State Meet image

The expectations of the Pasadena City College men's track and field team were high going into the final three big meets of the season. But by the end of the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships held May 20-21 at Sacramento's American River College, the Lancers' end results just didn't reach their intended goals.

PCC settled for just seven team points and a tie for 32nd place at the state meet.

The Pasadena 4x400 relay squad of Vincent Bryant, Stephen Peevy, Ron Spears and Korey Brown placed a respectable fourth with a time of 3:14.50. Bryant took the spot of an injured Eddie Tripp. The 4x100 relay squad of Marques Stanley, Spears, Peevy, and Brown had an exchange mishap and did not finish. Both relays had posted some of the state's fastest times coming into the meet.

In the 400 meters, Brown, the South Coast Conference champion in the event, was disqualified for a lane violation. Peevy (pictured) placed seventh at 48.81 seconds, good enough for a meet medal.

Finally in the high jump, Steven Williams, who was among the state leaders, placed tied for ninth, missing out on a medal. He jumped 6-foot-6. PCC's last state champion individual was in the high jump--Chris Hicks in 2008.
