Sports in the NewsLocals Highlight PCC Football Intrasquad Scrimmage Friday, Aug. 26
Featuring its largest local class of players in the past two decades, the Pasadena City College football team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 26 at Robinson Stadium. The Lancers will begin plays monitored by official game referees at 5 p.m. New PCC Head Coach Fred Fimbres has 15 players from Pasadena John Muir High on this year's roster, including returning defensive back Marcus Graves (30 tackles, two interceptions in 2010). Linebacker Grant Haggard, the Lancers' second-leading tackler last season with 70, is another local talent from Monrovia High. Freshman newcomer quarterback Justin Posthuma is out of St. Francis High. A Mission League offensive MVP as a senior, he passed for 2,115 yards and rushed for 787 yards in 2009, then sat out last year as a redshirt walk-on at UCLA. The Lancers open the 2011 regular season with a pair of Saturday, non-conference home games on Sept. 3 and 10. PCC begins the Coach Fimbres' era against visiting, long-time rival Glendale College before hosting Allan Hancock College (Santa Maria) in week 2. All Pasadena home games have 6 p.m. kickoffs.
