Sports in the NewsWomen's Soccer Rallies, But Santa Ana Responds In 4-2 Loss
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team fought through a hot afternoon at Robinson Stadium and showed spark in coming back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie it 2-2. However, the visiting Santa Ana College Dons scored two goals in a two-minute span late in the match to send the Lancers to a 4-2 defeat. PCC fell to 0-2 while Santa Ana picked up its first victory of 2011 at 1-2. PCC outshot Santa Ana, 13-8, overall, but the Dons had more genuine scoring opportunities throughout the match. With eight minutes left, Traci Kelley squirted a pass to Yesenia Fonseca, who kicked in the game-winning score. In the 84th minute, Kelley again came up with a superb pass, sending a ball in from midfield to a breaking Meguen Salazar. Salazar sent a low shot past diving PCC goalie Jessica Capra for a clinching Santa Ana goal. White, a freshman from Burroughs High in Burbank, frequently made plays in the defensive zone and was busy on throw-ins when the Lancers were on offense. Midfielder Joleen Galeazzi-Pimentel (Arcadia High) led PCC in shots on goal with three. Midfielder Alexandria Jimenez (Mark Keppel) and defender Tori Floyd (Pasadena High) were other players who stood out as PCC Head Coach Randy Lilavois played all 18 of his available players in the match. The Lancers will look for their first victory when they travel to face Moorpark College on Friday, Sept. 9 in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
