PCC Cross-Country Alum Rodriguez Named CCAA Athlete of Week
Ernesto Rodriguez, a state meet participant in his two seasons at Pasadena City College in 2008-2009, was selected the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Male Runner of the Week for his current team at San Francisco State University.
In his very first race for San Francisco, Rodriguez placed second out of 70 runners at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational on Sept. 3 in Belmont, completing the 4.2-mile course in 21 minutes, 48 seconds. He helped SF State capture the team championship in the seven-school field, which included the likes of Division I San Jose State.
Rodriguez, a junior, was joined at the finish line by another PCC alumnus Will Zentmyer, who took seventh place overall at 22:15. Zentmyer was an All-South Coast Conference runner last season for the Lancers and he went on to take 16th at the CCCAA state meet. Zentmyer also was running his first four-year university race for the Gators.
"We're very pleased with Ernesto and Will immediately making high marks at San Francisco State," said PCC cross country head coach Armand Crespo. "When our recruits can see what other PCC runners before them can accomplish, it goes a long way to inspiring our runners."
