Women's Soccer Pulls Out Tie With Moorpark, 1-1
Sophomore forward Mallory Gutierrez's goal with one minute remaining lifted the Pasadena City College women's soccer team to a 1-1, non-conference tie Friday at Moorpark College.
In the 89th minute, freshman defender Hallie White made a throw-in that was volleyed by Gutierrez into the Moorpark net for her team-leading third goal of the season. It was White's third assist in three matches.
The Raiders had taken a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute when Ryann Appell scored on a free kick from 20 yards out.
PCC goalie Jessica Capra held the fort for the Lancers making seven saves. PCC outshot Moorpark overall, 17-10.
Pasadena (0-2-1) is on an extended winless streak going back to last season. The Lancers haven't won in nine matches (0-6-3) going back to an Oct. 22, 2010 South Coast Conference, 1-0 victory over El Camino College Compton Center.
"Don't be deceived by our current record," said PCC Head Coach Randy Lilavois, now in his second season in charge of the program. "We played against three pretty good teams, including one of the top state squads in LA Pierce in our opener. We won five of our first seven matches last year, but our competition wasn't as strong as these opening oponents. Now, we'll find out if this toughens us up for our next several non-conference matches. The idea is to be prepared come SCC games. We haven't begun to show our potential."
The Lancers host Santa Monica College Tuesday, Sept. 13 in a 3 p.m. non-conference game at PCC's Robinson Stadium.
