Sports in the NewsMen's Soccer Settles For Late 2-2 Tie At Victor Valley
The Pasadena City College men's soccer team let a 2-0 lead slip away Wednesday as host Victor Valley scored at the end of extra time for a 2-2 tie in a non-conference match. The Lancers are still off to successful 4-1-1 start under second-year head coach Edgar Manvelyan. PCC outshot VVC, 18-5, and dominated much of the match. Just 10 minutes into the contest, sophomore Gor Kirakosyan drilled a shot into the upper corner for his fifth goal on an assist by letterman midfielder Ryosuke Tarui (from Japan). In the 26th minute, the Lancers upped it to 2-0 when Kirakosyan sent a perfect cross to Irving Rosales for a tap-in. It was the freshman Rosales' team-leading sixth goal. Among the several missed opportunities for the Lancers were Vahagn Manoyan missing on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half, and both Kirakosyan and Tarui hitting the post on first-half attempts. Manvelyan praised the performances of Kirakosyan, Tarui (pictured) and David Gonzalez. Rosales made a big defensive play, clearing out a ball that was at the PCC goal-line during the first half. The Lancers' Antonio Benitez was whistled for a red card in the second half. PCC next plays at Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in a 3 p.m. kickoff.
