Posting a 1-0 home victory over El Camino College Compton Center Tuesday in its South Coast Conference opener, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to five games (4-0-1) in improving the Lancers' overall record to 4-2-2.

PCC has recorded shutouts in three of the last four matches, including a 9-save effort against Compton by sophomore goalie Jessica Capra. The Lancers scored the game's lone goal just 20 seconds after the opening kickoff on an unassisted goal by freshman Vanessa Capra, who pounced on her own rebound attempt and rolled in a short attempt inside the goalie box. It was Capra's fourth goal of the season.

The Lancers ended Compton's six-game undefeated string as the much-improved Tartars are 5-2-1.

In a non-conference match played Sept. 23 at College of the Sequoias, the Lancers powered four goals in the first half en route to a 5-3 win. Forward Mallory Gutierrez scored a pair of goals while Chloe Reyes (Kennedy High) totaled a goal and two assists. Alexandria Jimenez (Mark Keppel High) added a goal and an assist and Capra knocked in a 15-yard attempt for a goal. Reyes scored her first Lancer goal in the 81st minute, volleying in a free kick by Joleen Galeazzi-Pimentel.

On Sept. 20 at Oxnard, Jessica Capra (Alverno High) made six saves and was helped by strong clearing plays from PCC's defenders in a hard-fought 0-0 tie. Gutierrez, who saw her five-match goal scoring streak snapped, nearly scored on a bicycle kick attempt that hit the crossbar.

Overall, Gutierrez has seven goals to lead the Lancers. Freshman defender Hallie White continues to shine as the Lancers' designated sweeper.

The Lancers next face the No. 1-ranked team in the nation by the NSCAA, Cerritos College, a Falcons squad that is 7-0 and 1-0 in SCC play after opening conference with a 2-0 win over LA Harbor. PCC plays at Cerritos Friday, Sept. 30 in a 4 p.m. start.
