Sports in the NewsBlank Scores 6 Goals, But Water Polo On Short End v. Mt. SAC, 14-8
The Pasadena City College women's water polo team played well throughout its South Coast Conference match against visiting Mt. San Antonio College Wednesday afternoon, but ultimately mistakes in both zones helped the Mounties overtake the Lancers, 14-8. "We're really coming together as a team," said PCC Head Coach Terry Stoddard. "We did so many good things against an always tough Mt. SAC squad. Take away the turnovers we made, and it's a different match. We've had some players just returning to the pool due to injury and illness, so we weren't entirely in sync. But I do like the way team is beginning to pull together. We're progressing forward." The Lancers, 3-5 overall and 1-3 in SCC games, will host the 11th Pasadena Bowl Tournament this Friday-Saturday, October 7-8. Makenzie Blank has developed into a go-to goal scorer as she netted six goals to lead the PCC offensive attack. That gives the freshman from Temple City High a team-leading 30 goals in just eight games played. Blank's sixth goal was a spectacular one-handed flip with her back to the Mt. SAC goal after receiving a pass from Paloma Barrera. Both Barrera and Milene Minassians totaled a goal and two assists. On defense, Taylor Guidera made three steals and Naoni Padilla added two saves in the first half at goalie and three steals overall in the net and in the field. Mt. SAC (5-11, 2-2 in SCC play) was paced by Melissa Pryor with six goals and Cambria Wright with five scores. The Mounties scored three times on the power play. The schedule for the 11th Pasadena Bowl Tournament is as follows, all games are at the Aquatic Center: Friday, October 7 Game #1--Cerritos v.
