Rosales' 2 Goals Not Enough For Men's Soccer v. Cerritos
For a few minutes Tuesday, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team saw an opportunity to catch South Coast Conference power Cerritos College during their game at Robinson Stadium. The Lancers had sliced a 2-0 halftime deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Irving Rosales in the 54th minute.
With the momentum of the game changing to the Lancers favor, Cerritos forward Aaron Macedo broke free on a short breakaway, then was tripped up by PCC defender Edwin Sanchez entering the goalie box. The play resulted in a red card to Sanchez, a yellow card to backup goalie Michael Alcaraz, and ultimately a penalty kick goal by Macedo that extended Cerritos' lead to two scores again in the 58th minute.
Rosales scored his second goal just before the game end whistle, but Cerritos walked away with a 4-2 victory. The loss for PCC extended its winless streak in conference to eight matches. Pasadena is 6-6-4 overall and a woeful 1-5-3 in SCC games.
Rosales was assisted on the first goal by a short cross pass by Yuta Tsujioka and his 10th goal of the year came on an assist from Vahagn Manoyan.
PCC played to a 2-2 tie at El Camino College-Compton Center on Oct. 21. Gor Kirakosyan returned to the Lancers' lineup and scored his team-leading 11th goal while defender Enrique Miranda scored his second of the year. Manoyan and Rosales each recorded an assist.
The Lancers will next play a 4 p.m. game at Los Angeles Harbor College Friday, Oct. 28.
