Offense Comes Together For Women's Soccer In 4-0 Win
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team exploded for three second-half goals and went on to complete a 4-0, South Coast Conference victory at Los Angeles Harbor College Friday afternoon. The Lancers scored more than two goals in a contest for the first time in more than a month and reached their highest goal total in 10 conference matches this season.
The Lancers (6-8-3 overall, 3-6-1 in SCC play) opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Graciela Guevara took a pass on a free kick from Joleen Galeazzi-Pimentel and blasted in her third goal of the year.
PCC held on to that slim 1-0 advantage untll the 66th minute when Mallory Gutierrez (pictured) headed in her team-leading 10th goal on a volley assist by Kirstyn Allyson. Ten minutes later, Galeazzi-Pimentel cashed on a penalty kick goal. With three minutes left in the match, Vanessa Capra used her patented ability to speed past opponent defenders in finishing off a sprint with her ninth goal.
Jessica Capra made three saves to record the goalie shutout.
"We showed some of our offense in the last match against the conference's top team Cerritos," said PCC Head Coach Randy Lilavois. "Our key offensive players, Mallory, Joleen, and Vanessa are creating more chances. We had 15 shots today and we're finally finishing plays. We have to build on this win."
Gutierrez is the first Lancer to score double digits in a goals in a season since Melissa Fudge had 18 in 2008.
Pasadena has another tough test Tuesday, Nov. 1 when it hosts a talented East Los Angeles College squad in a 3 p.m. SCC match.
