Rosales' Hat Trick Caps Late Comeback For Men's Soccer
After taking a 2-1 halftime lead, El Camino College seemed content in trying to play a containment defensive style to protect that advantage. The strategy worked all the way up until the 82nd minute. That's when the Pasadena City College men's soccer team and forward Irving Rosales blitzed the unsuspecting Warriors.
The Lancers exploded for three goals in the next seven minutes, erasing El Camino's lead and putting an end to the team's 10-match, South Coast Conference winless streak in a 4-2 victory at Robinson Stadium. Rosales highlighted the home finale by scoring the hat trick as he tied heralded sophomore Gor Kirakosyan for the team season lead in goals with 14.
With eight minutes left, Vahagn Manoyan got the net party started as he took a lead pass from Yuta Tsujioka and knocked in the tying goal. Just two minutes later, the 6-foot-2 Rosales controlled a loose ball, then planted himself as he drilled a liner over the head of El Camino goal Nolan Dean into the center of the net from 20 yards out.
Rosales wasn't finished as he took a cross pass from Ryosuke Tarui and again fired a hard shot to beat Dean with a minute left. In the first half, Rosales gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead when he headed in a flick pass by Khaled Gara off a corner kick by Michael Alcaraz.
While Rosales had Dean's number, it seemed to be in reverse for Kirakosyan. In the 11th minute, Rosales was fouled in the goalie box resulting in a penalty kick. Kirakosyan was stopped by a diving Dean, then went after the rebound and his ensuing header attempt was denied into the chest of Dean.
The Lancers improved to 7-8-4 overall and 2-7-3 in SCC play. PCC travels to face Long Beach City College Tuesday, Nov. 8 in a 1 p.m. match.
