Crump Scores 27, But Men's Cagers Fall In Opener
Givon Crump poured in 27 points during the Pasadena City College men's basketball team season-opening, 77-72 loss to Antelope Valley in the first round of the Ventura College "We Play Hard" Tournament Thursday evening.
Crump, (pictured) one of only two sophomores on the roster and a transfer from Baylor University, was 7-for-7 from the free throw line and gave the Lancers a brief lead, 61-60, on a 3-point basket with six minutes left.
The Lancers, who trailed 49-41 at halftime, allowed AVC several put-back points as the Marauders totaled 18 offensive rebounds in the game.
PCC closed the gap to 75-72 with 20 seconds remaining, but that was as close as it got near the finish.
Freshman center Lorelle Martin added 12 points and guard Marquise Tolson 10 points to aid the Pasadena cause.
The Lancers face Miramar in the consolation semifinals Friday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. If PCC wins, it would advance to the consolation (fifth-place) final on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. against the winner of Orange Coast v. Los Angeles Valley.
