Women's Soccer Season Comes To A Close
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie at Mt. San Antonio College Friday night and ended the 2011 season in the process. PCC's final record was 7-9-5 and 4-7-3 for fifth place in the powerful South Coast Conference.
The Lancers did not score in either of their final two matches, losing at Long Beach, 4-0, on Nov. 8. However, PCC finished the season with a 2-1-2 mark over its final five games, showing improvement with a freshman-laden squad.
Sophomore goalie Jessica Capra made five saves to earn her fourth shutout. Other Lancers playing in their final PCC contest were defenders Kirstyn Allyson, Brittany Austin, Alexandra Dreves, midfielder Joleen Galeazzi-Pimentel, and forward Mallory Gutierrez. Claudia Garcia did not play, but also saw her PCC playing career end.
For the second straight season, Gutierrez led the Lancers in goals with 12, giving her 18 for her career. Freshman forward Vanessa Capra had a tremendous first collegiate season with 10 goals and seven assists while frosh defender Hallie White proved to be one of the SCC's top defensive players.
PCC Head Coach Randy Lilavois directed his second season in charge of the Lancers with the program improving one place in the SCC final standings.
