Orange Coast Defensive Strategy Works As Men's Hoops Lose, 65-62

Orange Coast Defensive Strategy Works As Men's Hoops Lose, 65-62 image

After scoring 59 points over his first two games as a Lancer, Givon Crump became a marked man for opponents. The Pasadena City College transfer guard was the object of Orange Coast College's defense as he was double-teamed often Saturday. The Pirates used a full-court press, limited Crump to just two points, and defeated PCC, 65-62, in the consolation final of the Ventura College "We Play Hard" Tournament.

Pasadena (1-2) led 33-31 at halftime, but had a rough game handling the ball, making 25 turnovers in the 40 minutes. Freshman guard Marquise Tolson (pictured) topped the Lancers with 17 points while forward Alec Tatum added 12 points and seven rebounds. Forward Laik Carter added 10 points and forward Rashard Smith tallied eight points and eight boards. Sophomore transfer point guard Jerrick Thomas contributed two points, five assists and five rebounds.

At the Ventura tourney, the Lancers shot the ball well from the free throw line, including a 14-for-16 effort (.875) against OCC.

The Lancers will play before their home fans for the first time on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when they host Southwestern College in a 6 p.m. tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
