Four Women's Soccer Players Picked All-SCC
In the South Coast Conference, the higher a team's placing, the greater number of players make the All-SCC team. An improvement from one place in the standings, going from sixth to fifth, resulted in four Lancers being selected to the 2011 All-SCC Teams.
Leading scorer Vanessa Capra and defender Hallie White, both freshmen, were All-SCC First Team selections while sophomore forward Mallory Gutierrez and sophomore midfielder Joleen Galeazzi-PImentel each were picked to the All-SCC Second Team by conference coaches.
Capra, a forward from Eagle Rock High, accounted for 10 goals and seven assists as her speed led to several breakaway opportunities. White, a 5-foot-11 sensation from Burbank Burroughs High, was one of the conference's top defensive players. She often broke up opponent scoring chances and used her powerful leg to hit booming kicks, some longer than 50 yards. White even scored a pair of goals in the team's home finale when she was placed at forward for a brief period.
Gutierrez, another product of Burroughs, led the Lancers in goals for the second straight season, netting 12. She finishes her PCC career 13th on the school's all-time points (39) scoring list and 11th in goals scored with 18. Galeazzi-Pimentel, also a letterman from Arcadia High, was a steady performer at midfielder. She totaled five goals and six assists this season.
Freshman defender Nichole Washburn (Temple City High) picked up an All-SCC honorable mention.
In his second season in charge of the Lancers, Pasadena Head Coach Randy Lilavois directed the Lancers to a fifth place finish in the difficult SCC with a 7-9-5 overall record.
