Sixth-Seed Women's Volleyball Hosts Bakersfield In SoCal Playoff Tuesday, Nov. 22
The Pasadena City College women's volleyball team earned a home playoff match for the third straight season under fifth-year head coach Tammy Silva. The Lancers were selected as the No. 6 seed Sunday in the conference seeding meeting held at PCC.
The Lancers host No. 11 Bakersfield, the second place team from the Western State Conference South Division, Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Match time is 6 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
Pasadena, 19-4 overall tied for second place in the SCC, was ranked in the state top 10 for the entire regular season. The Renegades were 16-7 in the regular season.
If the Lancers get by Bakersfield, they would face the winner of the No. 3 Grossmont v. No. 14 Cypress match on Saturday, Nov. 26. The higher seed will host that match thus giving PCC a 50-50 chance at hosting a second round playoff. Cypress prevented the Lancers a trip to last year's CCCAA State Final Four with a third-round victory. Grossmont is the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference co-champion.
"Right now, we're focused on Bakersfield," Silva said. "Our sophomore setter Jessica Xu played in that infamous loss we had against them two years ago, so I'm sure she can communicate to the players the importance of being ready for a lower seed. All I know is that Bakersfield is one of the most well-coached teams in the state under Carl Ferreira. The Renegades taught us you can't think ahead."
