Moe Named All-SoCal Region, 6 VB Players Make All-SCC
Pasadena City College sophomore women's volleyball player Ella Moe, the conference leader in hitting, was selected to the All-Southern California Region Team and was one of six Lancers chosen to the 2011 All-South Coast Conference Teams.
Moe, a 5-foot-8, outside hitter from Orem High, Utah, totaled 276 kills and a SCC-leading 3.58 kills per game average. She also is tied for the team lead in service aces (29) and second on the squad in defensive digs with 173 (2.25 average). Moe's Lancers qualified as the No. 6 seed in the South Region and hosts No. 11 Bakersfield Tuesday, Nov. 22.
PCC Head Coach Tammy Silva has guided an All-SoCal Region or All-State selection in each of the last four seasons.
In the All-SCC selections, Moe made the First Team along with sophomore setter Jessica Xu and freshman middle blocker Jackie Valle-Acosta. Xu, from China, was an All-State selection back in 2009, missed last season due to injury, and returned to become a two-time, all-conference choice. Xu averages 7.6 assists per game and is tied with Moe for tops in aces (29). Valle-Acosta, from South Hills High, is second on the team in kills (171), pacing all Lancers in attack percentage (.426) and block kills (67).
Making it to the All-SCC Second Team was 6-1, freshman middle blocker Megan Callen (from St. Lucy's Priory in Glendora) , who was limited to 39 games played due to injury, but holds consistent 2.18 kills and 1.08 blocks averages). Also chosen to the Second Team were freshman opposite Yanise Joseph (Palisades Charter High), who has a 1.71 kills and 0.52 blocks average, and sophomore libero Jessica Vargas (Whittier California High), who leads the squad in digs with 308.
The Lancers were tied for second place in the SCC with a 19-4 overall record and 11-3 conference mark.
