Youth Is Served: 4 PCC Freshmen Make All-SCC Women's Water Polo Team
The Pasadena City College women's water polo team placed four freshmen on the All-South Coast Conference Teams after an 11-win season by the Lancers. Goalie Shelby Gregg and utility Makenzie Blank were First Team selections while 2-meter/attacker Miline Minassians and utility Paloma Barrera were chosen Second Team.
Gregg (from Crescenta Valley High) was a standout goalie with 191 saves and a team-best 69 steals. Blank, from Temple City High, scored a team-high 79 goals and added 17 assists and 30 steals. Blank and Gregg also were team captains for head coach Terry Stoddard's squad.
Barrera, from Burbank Burroughs High, scored 30 goals and dished out a Lancers high of 33 assists. Minassians, a gifted defensive player from Glendale High, totaled 34 goals, 21 assists and 37 steals in the field.
Taylor Guidera, a freshman wing and another Crescenta Valley product, earned an All-SCC honorable mention.
The Lancers' 12-player roster was nearly all freshmen (just one sophomore) and Stoddard is planning on returning as many of his 2011 players as possible.
