Ghazarian, Lacey Help Women's Basketball Back Into Win Column
Coming off the bench, frosh guard Stella Ghazarian scored 19 points and sophomore center Tonisha Lacey powered her way to 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Pasadena City College women's basketball team snapped a 3-game losing streak in defeating Los Angeles Trade-Tech, 71-61, Friday night in a South Coast Conference game at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
The Lancers, 8-9 overall and 2-3 in SCC play, won for the fifth straight time at home.
Ghazarian's offensive rebound and layup gave PCC a 33-31 halftime lead. In the second half, Lacey had a run of three consecutive baskets that increased the lead to 49-41. A Ghazarian fast-break basket and a corner 3-pointer moved it to 54-41. A Lacey inside bucket capped off a 23-4 Lancers' scoring bonanza with 6:45 left.
Trade-Tech (4-10, 1-4 in SCC play) was able to make the score respectable with a late run of its own. Tiffany Moorehead had a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lady Techsters.
For PCC, sophomore forward Marquetta Stokes scored all 10 of her points in the second half while second-year forward Destinee Sellers also finished with 10 points. Ghazarian was 8-for-12 from the field (3-for-6 on 3-pointers) and Lacey 6-for-11 as PCC shot 42.6 percent from the floor. Point guard Tiffany Thompson was solid in the second-half surge as she made all five of her rebounds and all four of her assists during the final 20 minutes.
The Lancers next host El Camino-College Compton Center on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in a 5 p.m. SCC tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
