Men Take 2nd, Women 3rd at Mariner Swim Invitational
The Pasadena City College men's swim team placed second at the Mariner Invitational meet held Saturday at College of Marin. The Lancers were again paced by the talented pair of freshman Stephen To and sophomore Cario Liu.
To captured victories in the 50-yard butterfly and 100-butterfly. He teamed with Liu for another first place in the 2x50 sprint freestyle relay and was third in the 50-freestyle. Liu scored a win in the 200 individual medley, a second in the 50-freestyle, and finished third in the 200-freestyle. Aaron Lam and Michael Chiodo did their part with a first place in the 4x50 sprint relay.
On March 9, the Lancers lost a non-conference dual meet at Diablo Valley College, the North region's premier program, 124-67. For PCC, To won the 50-freestyle (22.86) and 100-butterfly (51.81) while Liu picked up event wins in the 1,650-freestyle (17:10.98) and 400 IM (4:16.99). In the mixed 200-free relay, To and Liu teamed with Lancer women swimmers Mikela Velasquez and Giselle Mendieta for a win with a time of 1:38.13.
PCC WOMEN UPDATE
At the Mariner Invitational Mar. 10, the Lancers placed third, just 11 points behind second-place Chabot. Velasquez, a sophomore, won the 50-freestyle (26.14) and 100-freestyle (56.59), and took second in the 100 IM (1:05.17). The 4x50 free relay squad (Courtney Jensen, Paige Watroba, and Mendieta) also were victorious.
In the DVC dual meet, the Lancers lost, 144-54. Jensen, (pictured) a sophomore distance swimmer, notched wins in the 1,650-freestyle (19:50.62) and 500-freestyle (5:48.08).
Both PCC teams will participate in a South Coast Conference double dual meet v. Rio Hondo and host Mt. San Antonio on Friday, Mar. 16.
