First Day Results of 12th Pasadena Swim Invitational
Pasadena City College and Lancers men's and women's swim head coach Terry Stoddard hosted the first day of the 12th Pasadena Invitational Friday at the Aquatic Center.
The Lancers were among 18 colleges participating, including state powers Orange Coast and Diablo Valley Colleges. The PCC women are in sixth place with 79 points and the Pasadena men in ninth place (68 points) through the initial seven events for each gender.
Orange Coast, the 2011 CCCAA state champion, is the three-time defending team champion for men and women at the Pasadena invite. The Pirates are already ahead in this year's standings with a 58-point lead over Diablo Valley in the women events and a slight 9.5 points lead over Grossmont in the men's competition.
In the men's events, PCC's Cario Liu had the highest finish for any Lancer Friday with a second place in the 200-yard individual medley at 1:58.76. The mark was three seconds faster than Liu's finish here at last year's host invite (then fifth place). Grossmont's Tom Bruce won this year's event with a 1:57.40 mark.
For the women, sophomore Mikela Velasquez grabbed sixth place in both the 100 IM (1:03.92) and 50 freestyle (25.60).
The second day of the 12th Pasadena Invitational concludes Saturday with events running all morning and afternoon.
