Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium Hosts LA Sparks Exhibition May 5
Pasadena City College's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium will be the site for an exhibition women's basketball game between the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks and China's National Team on Saturday, May 5. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
The game is part of a fundraiser for the PCC women's basketball program under head coach Joe Peron. The pre-season game is the first time that fans can get a look at the 2012 Sparks' squad and one-time league MVP Candace Parker.
"Because of our large Asian student population, this game has some added appeal," Peron said. "I hope we can fill up the gym as its a rare opportunity to see professional basketball played at a community college. It also a great chance to see WNBA stars on our campus.
"We have established a strong program here at PCC. Some of the players that pass through our program have gone on to big things, like Easter Faafiti playing for a gold medal U.S. Deaf Olympics team. The WNBA has the best of the best from women's basketball, and the role models you can find at the pro level can show by example how far student-athletes can achieve athletically."
Tickets are $10 for all individuals and can be purchased by calling 877-44-Sparks. For more information on purchasing tickets, contact the Sparks at firstname.lastname@example.org.
