PCC Men To, Liu Qualify For State Swim Meet
Pasadena City College men swimmers Stephen To and Cario Liu followed up their double event victories at the South Coast Conference Championships April 19-21 by each qualifying for this week's CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships at East Los Angeles College April 26-28.
To captured the SCC titles in both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly, qualifying as the state's second fastest in the 200 fly (1:53.34). The freshman is seventh in the 100 fly (51.28).
Liu, a sophomore, was conference champion in the 200 and 400 individual medley events. Liu qualified for three events overall, including the 200 breaststroke. Liu is the No. 3 seed in the 400 IM (4:07.26) and the seventh seed in the 200 IM (1:55.17).
The Lancers men placed sixth out of eight teams in the SCC Championships held at PCC's Aquatic Center. PCC's streak of having a Lancer named SCC Swimmer of the Year ended at six consecutive years as conference coaches chose Kyle McCurley (Chaffey) and Taylor Kneisley (Mt. San Antonio) for the 2012 co-honors. Long Beach City College, the dual meet champion, and Chaffey finished in a tie for the conference team title and share the SCC championship.
