Volleyball's Hopkins Advancing To New York Mercy College
Mallorie Hopkins, a two-year letterman on the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team, accepted a playing/academic scholarship to attend Mercy College, a NCAA Division II institution located in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
A reserve defensive specialist her two seasons at PCC, Hopkins recorded 186 digs and served 31 aces for the Lancers in 2010 and 2011. She was a part of two outstanding Pasadena teams that combined for a 42-10 overall record. The 2010 Lancers finished as the state's No. 7 ranked team and a Southern California third round finalist.
Guided by PCC head coach Tammy Silva, Hopkins developed into a steady reserve player that often would be sent in during key moments of matches to bolster the team's back row.
Originally from Bell Gardens High, Hopkins thrived at PCC, earning one of the school's Elizabeth Jensen transfer scholarships with a 3.2 GPA. At Mercy, Hopkins will be participating in the East Coast Conference. She is the ninth Lancer in Silva's coaching tenure (started at PCC in 2006) to earn a 4-year university scholarship.
