Water Polo Finishes 1-3 at Pasadena Bowl
Despite a late comeback, the Pasadena City College women's water polo team lost an 8-7 decision against Citrus College Saturday that closed out the 12th Pasadena Bowl Tournament. The Lancers (3-9 overall) finished 1-3 at the tourney, held at the Aquatic Center.
Pasadena had earlier been beaten by Cerritos, 15-1, with the lone goal being scored by Makenzie Blank.
Against Citrus, Lancers' goalie Shelby Gregg set her own personal PCC high with 19 saves, including 10 in the first quarter. Gregg's performance was just two saves shy of the college's record of 21 set by Hannah Hogue in 2009.
The Lancers scored three straight goals in the last 3:15 of the match to nearly catch Citrus. Sophomore Milene Minassians scored three goals and made four steals while Blank tallied the hat trick as well. Taylor Guidera also scored a goal and Naoni Padilla was strong with four steals and two assists.
After 12 matches, Blank leads the team with 42 goals and 14 steals. Paloma Barrera is the category leader in assists with nine. Gregg has made 129 saves as she is averaging better than 10 per match. On Wednesday, October 10, the Lancers travel to face Mt. San Antonio College in a 3 p.m. South Coast Conference match. The Lancers are 0-4 in SCC games.
