Women's Soccer Holding On To 3rd Place In SCC
A 3-goal, second-half outburst sent the Pasadena City College women's soccer team to a 3-0, South Coast Conference victory over host El Camino College Friday afternoon. The team's fourth shutout in its last four wins allowed the Lancers to remain in third place in the conference.
Pasadena improved to 9-4-2 and 5-2-1 in SCC play in already the best season in three years under head coach Randy Lilavois and assistant coach Reggie Rivas. Lilavois had maxed at seven wins in each of the first two seasons at PCC.
Freshman forward Nancy Nunez tied her Lancers teammate Vanessa Capra for the team and the conference lead in goals scored with her 11th goal in the 55th minute. Nunez (pictured) scored on a difficult side angle shot that broke a scoreless tie v. the Warriors.
In the 77th minute, Cassandra Saavedra took a pass from Capra and one-timed her sixth goal this season. With just three minutes left in the match, Pasadena capped things as reserve Amber Fadem took advantage of an ECC turnover and scored her first collegiate goal unnassisted.
PCC goalie Tatiana Sanchez only had to make three saves to record the shutout. The Lancers dominated the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Warriors, 11-1, and 18-5 overall. Pasadena also stopped El Camino's four-match win streak.
The Lancers travel to face East Los Angeles College on Tuesday, October 23 in a 4 p.m. conference battle.
