Women's Volleyball Feasts On SCC: 10-0 Mark Leads Conference
The state's No. 9-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team picked up its fifth straight sweep Tuesday in routing host Los Angeles Harbor College, 25-13, 25-5, 25-12. The Lancers are a perfect 10-0 in conference play and have doubled up opponents in the last five matches, winning by an average set score of 25-12.5.
PCC (16-3 overall) took advantage of the last-place Seahawks (3-12, 0-10 in conference) with a decided advantage in size at the net. This resulted in a remarkable 16 attack kills on overpasses or balls that clear the net, but are returned by an immediate hitter attempt.
The Lancers sophomore middle blocker duo of Megan Callen and Jackie Valle-Acosta were kids in a candy store at the net. Callen collected 12 kills in 17 attempts (.647 attack percentage) and Valle-Acosta 10 kills in just 14 attempts (.643). PCC hit .519 overall, slamming 49 kills in 81 attempts with only seven errors.
Seven different Lancers scored service aces (13 as a team), including three each by freshman defensive specialist Brian Hilton (pictured) and libero Jennifer Estrada, who added 15 digs.
PCC hosts Long Beach City College on Friday, Nov. 2 in a 6 p.m. match at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. The Lancers are 8-0 at home this year. The Lancers are 30-2 in sets won during their 10-match win streak.
