Playing under the lights Friday at Robinson Stadium, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team celebrated Sophomore Night by scoring the most goals in a match in 11 years, pounding El Camino College-Compton Center, 8-0. PCC finished the regular season in second place in the South Coast Conference with a 12-4-5 overall record and 8-2-4 league mark.

The first years of the PCC soccer program from 1997-2001 featured some high-scoring affairs, including a school-record 18 goals in a win over Compton on Nov. 3, 1998. In 2001, PCC last reached double figures with 11 in a game. Friday's win was a throw-back to those years.

PCC's trio of top scorers--sophomore forwards Nancy Nunez, Vanessa Capra and freshman midfielder Cassandra Saavedra--each notched two goals v. Compton. The triple threat all finished in the top four in the South Coast Conference scoring race with Nunez tallying 15, Capra 14, and Saavedra 13. Nunez and Cerritos forward Lauren Nanez tied for the SCC goals title.

The Lancers also reached their most victories in a year since 2005 (14) with more wins possible in the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs. PCC will make its first postseason appearance in five seasons.

Defenders Taylor Gore and Heather French also scored for the Lancers while goalies Tatiana Sanchez and Rina Garcia played a half each to combine for the shutout.

"I am very proud tonight with how far our program has come, and with the sophomores that have helped us get to this point," said PCC third-year head coach Randy Lilavois. "More than a win, tonight was about our team and celebrating the job we've done this year. A second place finish, a probable playoff appearance, a connection to our community, and three of the top scorers in the conference. There is so much to be proud of for us."
