Sports in the NewsSouthwestern Sends Men's Hoops To 3-7
After a 2-1/2 hour bus ride to Chula Vista, the Pasadena City College men's basketball team opened its game at Southwestern as if it didn't leave the vehicle. The Jaguars ran out to a 12-1 lead and went on to defeat the Lancers, 85-80, in a non-conference game Friday night. PCC dropped to 3-7 overall while Southwestern improved to 7-6. The Lancers have not won two games in a row this season. Sophomore guard Mike Swanegan led the Lancers with 20 points while Bryce Clifton had a strong overall performance on 16 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists. Evan Brooks added 16 points, drilling four 3-pointers. Forward Alec Tatum contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Through 10 games this season, Swanegan is averaging a team-best 20.4 points. Next up for Pasadena is the Imperial Valley Holiday Classic held Dec. 28-30. The Lancers open with a first round contest v. Fullerton College at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. PCC plays either the winner or the loser of the Imperial Valley v. College of the Desert game. If it beats Fullerton, Pasadena plays in the tournament championship semifinals at 7 p.m., and if it loses to Fullerton, it would play at 1 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
