Women Cager Shay Jackson Named All-State; Kaitlyn Parks Joins Her On All-SCC 1st Team
Pasadena City College women's basketball sophomore point guard Shay Jackson was selected to the All-State Second Team and joined freshman center Kaitlyn Parks as choices to the All-South Coast Conference First Team.
Jackson, a 5-foot-4 transfer who played at Castlemont High in Oakland, averaged 9.3 points and led the SCC in assists with a 5.5 average during the 28-game, regular season. She also averaged 2.4 steals a game. Parks, a 6-4 blue-chipper from Barstow High, averaged a double-double for the Lancers at 11.7 points and 10.6 rebounds. She led the SCC in overall field goal percentage (.486) and blocked two shots per contest.
The pair have led the Lancers to a No. 6 seed in the postseason and a sparkling 22-6 overall record.
PCC also placed three players on the All-SCC Second Team in two-time selection and sophomore shooting guard Stella Ghazarian, letterman guard and defensive specialist Sabrina Martinez, and freshman point guard Desiree Loving.
Ghazarian (Glendale High) led the SCC in 3-point field goals for the second straight season (69) and averaged 10.3 points per contest. From local Blair High, Martinez averaged 5.8 points and led the Lancers in steals at a 2.8 average. Loving, a product of Compton's Centennial High was a strong presence off the team's bench, averaging 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
All five Lancers will be in action Saturday, March 2 when PCC hosts Irvine Valley College in a Round 2 game of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
