As a freshman, shortstop Katelyn Thordarson has become the Pasadena City College softball team's most complete player. Thordarson exhibited her talents at the plate and in the field once again Thursday in helping the Lancers hammer Los Angeles Harbor College, 11-3, in a South Coast Conference game called after five innings due to the 8-run rule. The game was played at PCC's off-campus home at Robinson Park.

The Lancers snapped a 5-game losing streak in winning for the eighth time this year by outscoring their opponents by eight runs or more. PCC improved to 13-18 overall and 5-9 in SCC play. Harbor dropped to 8-18 and 1-13 in conference.

Thordarson, from Maranatha High, batted 2-for-3 at the plate on two hard-shot hits, one that she hustled to second the moment Harbor leftfielder Jazmin Culpepper made a slight bobble. Thordarson scored twice and also drew a walk in raising her team-leading batting average in conference games to .422. In 14 SCC games, Thordarson leads the Lancers in nine different offensive categories. Overall, she is batting .372 with 35 hits and 31 runs scored plus a team-high 26 RBI.

Defensively, Thordarson flashed the leather, making an outstanding play and fielder's choice throw to second base during the second inning. She was a part of eight of PCC's 15 defensive putouts, including four assists. Thordarson is also leading all Lancers in total assists (also as a third baseman) with 61.

"Katelyn has turned into one of the best all-around players in the conference," said PCC head coach Brittany Williams. "Her fielding is solid, and it's hard to find someone who hits the ball harder more often than she does. Her hits are line drives, and she doesn't get cheated at the plate."

Another Lancer freshman hitter, third baseman Audrey Serna, batted 3-for-4 v. Harbor, including a double and four RBI. The Arroyo High grad ended the game with her RBI single to center in the fifth inning. Serna paces the team in overall batting average at .378 and her .480 on-base percentage also tops the Lancers.

The first four batters in the Lancers lineup all scored two runs each while rightfielder Vanessa Contreras was 1-for-2 with a RBI and made a sliding catch in right field in the third inning. PCC took advantage of eight walks, three Harbor errors, three passed balls, and three wild pitches and made aggressive plays on the basepaths.

Lancers' pitcher Cierra Netwon scattered nine hits and won her sixth game of the season in the circle.

PCC next plays at  East Los Angeles College on Tuesday, April 2 at 3 p.m.
