Short-Handed Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Tie v. ELAC
Playing without injured key sophomore starters in Cassandra Saavedra, Amanda Papac, and Tatiana Sanchez, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team visited East Los Angeles College Friday night in a South Coast Conference match. The Lancers didn't let the absences phase them as they rallied for a 1-1 tie.
"We were concerned about getting even a single goal because Amanda and Cassandra are such big parts of our offense," said PCC head coach Reggie Rivas. "We got down a goal, but we fought back and played great. I'm very proud of the way the team played hard and refused to lose."
With 15 minutes left in the game, Freshman forward Helena Macintosh (Arcadia High) scored a goal to tie the game on an assist by sophomore midfielder Lizbeth Rodriguez. A minute later, frosh goalie Angie Ulmer made the save of the game as she stopped ELAC's Gladis Reyes on a penalty kick.
The Lancers outshot the Huskies barely, 15-14. Ulmer (South Pasadena HS, pictured) finished with six saves.
PCC improved to 1-0-1 in SCC play and 3-2-3 overall. The Lancers host one of their biggest soccer rivals in Long Beach City College on Tuesday, October 8 in a 3 p.m. match at Robinson Stadium.
