Harbor Hands Men's Soccer Tough 3-2 SCC Loss image

Sitting in a nice early positon in second place of the South Coast Conference, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team knew the importance of Friday's match v. Los Angeles Harbor. A couple of defensive letdowns midway through the match was too much for the Lancers in a 3-2 loss to the Seahawks at Robinson Stadium.

PCC dropped to 2-1-1 in conference games and 3-3-5 overall. Harbor jumped past the Lancers in the SCC standings at 3-1 and 7-3 overall.

After Harbor opened the scoring on a goal by Brian Flores in the 28th minute, a minute later Rodolfo Munoz headed in a free kick from 40 yards out by German Alfaro to allow the Lancers to tie it at 1-1. The Seahawks grabbed a 2-1 halftime lead as Aurelio Partida was left wide open in the goalie box and fired in a 12-yard shot for a goal.

Just two minutes into the second half, Jesus Gutierrez grabbed a loose ball in the corner and sent a cross to Sergio Cervantes, who easily knocked in a short-range shot for a goal and a 3-2 Harbor lead.

In the 73rd minute, the Lancers again responded as Sergio Benitez intercepted a clearing pass at the 35 yard-line and launched in a long-range goal that cut it to 3-2.

PCC goalie Gaetano Perez made three saves, including a stop on a penalty kick by Alberto Valdez in the 52nd minute.

On October 8 at Long Beach City College, the Lancers settled for a 1-1 tie. Alfaro scored his first collegiate goal on a breakaway off on an assist by Luis Flores.

The Lancers next play defending state champion Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday, October 15 in a 3 p.m. match at Robinson Stadium.
