Women's Soccer Dominates Compton, 3-0
For a team that has struggled to mount offense thus far this season, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team received a much needed jolt Tuesday in facing El Camino College-Compton Center. The Lancers bombarded Compton's defense for 24 shots and netted a 3-0, South Coast Conference victory at Robinson Stadium.
Lizbeth Rodriguez scored a pair of goals to lead PCC, now 4-5-4 and 2-3-2 in conference. The Lancers snapped a 5-match winless streak (0-3-2), a stretch in which they scored just four goals combined.
In the 35th minute, Rodriguez (Sierra Vista High) took a pass from Cassandra Orozco on the left side and her roller found the corner of the net for a 1-0 PCC lead. In the 69th minute, Helena Macintosh fed a lead pass to Rodriguez and the sophomore punched the ball high and over the head of Compton goalie Junnipher Guerrero for her second score. Four minutes later, Sara Oceguera (Blair High) dribbled from center of the field and finished with a high-rising shot into the upper corner for her second goal.
PCC goalie Angie Ulmer (South Pasadena HS) only had to make one save to preserve the shutout as she faced just two shots overall. Compton's Guerrero made 11 saves, including stoning Bianca Martinez's header (53rd minute) and Isabella Montano's short drive (66th minute).
In a SCC match played October 18 at PCC, first-place Cerritos routed the Lancers, 5-0.
On Friday, October 25, Pasadena hosts El Camino College (Torrance) in a 3 p.m. SCC game following the men's contest at 1 p.m.
