A defensive-minded squad throughout the 2013 season, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team fittingly closed the year with a shutout, downing El Camino-Compton Center, 3-0 Friday on sophomore day at Robinson Stadium.

The Lancers, under first-year PCC head coach Reggie Rivas, eight times shut out opponents and seven times held them to one goal. Overall, PCC allowed a 1.2 goals against average and it would have been far lower had it not been that the Lancers allowed 11 of their 24 goals against this year in two losses to perennial South Coast Conference champion Cerritos College.

Pasadena finished in fifth place in the SCC with a 5-4-5 conference mark and a 7-6-7 overall record. Against Compton, sophomore Amanda Papac picked up a goal and an assist as she finished as the team's leading points scorer with eight goals, two assists (18 points) this year.

The Lancers badly outshot the Tartars, 29-1, but could only net goals on an uncontested header by Bianca Martinez after a cross by Papac six minutes into the game; a breakaway score by Papac on a lead pass from Alexandria Jimenez at the 13th minute; and a nice re-direct on a flick shot by Lizbeth Rodriguez off a pass by Isabella Montano in the 73rd minute.

Freshman goalie Angie Ulmer recorded her sixth shutout with just one save as she posted an outstanding 1.04 goals against average and an .815 save percentages in her rookie collegiate season. Ulmer's 1.04 mark is a new school record for a regular starting goalie, breaking the mark of 1.13 set last year by Tatiana Sanchez.

"We battled through some injuries and got through a stretch where we couldn't buy a goal on offense," RIvas said. "Overall, I'm proud of the way we stepped up as a team the second half of the season. We went 4-1-3 in our last eight matches and we played a great first half in our second match v. Cerritos."

All-South Coast Conference selections for the Lancers will be announced on Tuesday.
