Men's Hoops Reach Conso Finals Of Santa Barbara CC Classic
The state No. 15-ranked Pasadena City College men's basketball team doubled up host Santa Barbara City, 78-39, Friday to reach the consolation finals of the 41st SBCC Classic. The Lancers (7-4) play Bakersfield Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. in the fifth place final.
After opening the game on a 17-5 run, the Lancers continued to pour it on and actually tripled the Vaqueros score by halftime, 39-13. PCC used a full-court press at times defensively that SBCC could not get by. Pasadena was never threatened in the second half and won by the lopsided margin. The Lancers totaled 18 steals.
Forward Taj Spencer led the way for the Lancers with 15 points and three steals while center Faruk Oyalade (pictured) picked up 10 points and 10 rebounds. PCC shot well from the floor due to a bevy of layup baskets at 52.8 percent.
On Thursday, PCC lost a tough one to Victor Valley, 87-85, in the opening round of the tourney. VVC is the second-highest scoring team in the state. Pasadena is No. 13 at points per game at 78.9 per contest. Guard Adrian Miles scored a team-high 24 points while sophomore point guard Jeffrey Dockett added 11 points, five assists and five steals. Second-year forward Rashad Smith contributed 10 points.
