Pathways Program Celebrated At PCC Basketball Doubleheader Jan. 29
"PCC Pathways Night" will take place as part of the Pasadena City College basketball teams' doubleheader Wednesday evening, Jan. 29 at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. The First Year Pathways (FYP) program, a recipient of the 2012 Chancellor's Student Success Award, guarantees new, incoming PCC students full schedules of classes, including difficult-to-get English and math courses, as well as a college success course, called “College 1”.
The program's goal is to ensure that students identify and complete their academic goals in a timely manner. It provides FYP students support needed outside of the classroom through the help of counselors, tutors, and mentors/advisers. In 2012, more than 800 students enrolled in FYP.
This year, more than 1,500 students are enrolled in an FYP, which is comprised of three components: Summer Bridge, the FYP Student Success Team, and College 1 / “One Book, One College.”
Pathways students receive free admission to the PCC games between the Lancers men's team v. Cerritos College (5 p.m.) and the Lancers women's contest against Cerritos College (7 p.m.).
Members of the Pathways program will sing the national anthem prior to both games. Prizes will be awarded and a raffle held throughout the evening with fun fan participation games during some of the basketball game breaks.
The first 100 Pathways students to attend the event will be provided with free food. For more information on the Pathways program, contact the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at 626-585-3048.
