The balance of power in South Coast Conference women's badminton has shifted at least in 2014. Winner of the last five conference team dual season crowns, Pasadena City College has met its match in rival East Los Angeles. The Huskies defeated the Lancers, 15-6, Friday at PCC's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium and took a commanding 2-game lead in the standings.

ELAC (5-0) has won each of the last four meetings v. PCC (now 3-2) going back to last year.

"We're a young team and ELAC simply has one of its best teams in a while," said PCC head coach Bill Sanchez. "We're stretching out singles matches, but our lack of experience hurts us especially in doubles. Five straight years winning the conference crown is a heck of a run for us. The goal has changed from trying to win to get to state to seeing our freshmen make strides in improving their level of play."

The Lancers won five of the 12 singles matches, but went 1-4 in doubles, winning only the 1-team point from No. 3 doubles as The Lin sisters, Yingwen and Yinghong, defeated ELAC's team of Chumeng Cheng-Han Le, 21-13, 21-10.

In singles, PCC No. 1 Carmina Ortiz scored a nice 21-16, 19-21, 21-16 win over Huskies' No. 2 Yuki Tai and Lancers' No. 5 Alejandra Palacios also won in three sets over Shaojin Wei, 21-11, 19-21, 21-19. ELAC's No. 1 doubles of Khan Dinh and Florencia Zhou Wong won twice and the pair also swept their four singles matches. PCC's No. 1 doubles squad of Ortiz and Chloe Ding gave Dinh-Zhou Wong a battle before losing their matchup, 18-21, 21-12, 21-14.

On March 26, the Lancers rolled to a 20-1 win over host and last-place El Camino College.
