Martin's Big Game Not Enough For Men's Basketball
Sophomore center Lorelle Martin put together his most productive performance as a Lancer, but in a losing cause as host El Camino College-Compton Center won a shootout over the Pasadena City College men's basketball team, 95-91, Friday night in a South Coast Conference game.
For the sixth time this season, PCC followed a victory with a loss as it dropped to 6-11 overall and 2-2 in conference action. Compton bolted to a 20-1 run early in the game and the Lancers were forced to play catch-up the rest of the night.
Martin, a 6-foot-8, returning post player, scored his PCC career high of 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots. Mike Swanegan added 21 points while Jeffrey Dockett had 17 points and five assists. Off the bench, Gary Matthews totaled 12 points.
PCC got to as close as four points in the second half, but the team's overall 28 turnovers proved to hinder the team's comeback.
The Lancers host state No. 7-ranked East Los Angeles College on Wednesday in a 5 p.m. conference tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
