Track and Field Ready For SCC Prelims/Finals
The Pasadena City College men's and women's track and field teams participate in the South Coast Conference Prelims Tuesday, April 23 at Mt. San Antonio College. The SCC Finals then take place at the Walnut campus' Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Friday, April 26.
On April 19, women's track and field sprinter Omhunique Browne took part in the open division v. some of the nation's top 4-year university racers at the 55th Mt. SAC Relays. Browne won her particular heat at 11.70 seconds, the fourth fastest mark at the meet, but not her fastest time of the season. Her best time of 11.63 is now the second fastest in the state behind Laney's Khadija Suleman, who ran an 11.47 at a Chabot College meet on Friday. Browne still is the state leader in the 200 meter dash at 23.77.
From the PCC men's team, Christian White raced 48.28 in the 200 meters, 15th at the Mt. SAC Relays in the open division. White's best time is 47.44 (performed at the Pasadena Games) and currently is third best in the state.
Several Lancers participated at the Beach Invitational, a meet with mostly 4-year universities performing at Cerritos College on April 19-20. The biggest highlight was the high jump event where Steven Williams soared to No. 2 in the state rankings with a season-best leap of 6-feet-9 inches. Williams (pictured) was fifth at the meet, but he is just 3/4th of an inch behind Cerritos' jumper Adam Aguirre (6-9.75) for the state No. 1 spot.
In the 110 hurdles, both Khaleel Green and John Lee won their specific heats. Green moved to ninth in the state with a time of 15.02 seconds. Lee jumped to No. 14 with his mark of 15.10.
"We're pretty excited about our prospects at the conference meets," said PCC head coach Larry Wade. "I feel we can finish in a high team place for both men and women. We have numbers and we have several top times. Now we just have to see how it will play out."
