Women's Badminton Plays For SoCal Title at SDCC
The Pasadena City College women's badminton team, winner of five consecutive South Coast Conference titles, will once again play for the Southern California championship today at 3 p.m. at Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champion San Diego City College
PCC (10-4 overall) ended as co-champions of the SCC with East Los Angeles College, both with 10-2 conference records. Since both teams split their matches at 2-2, the Lancers earned the tie-breaker by having scored more team points within the four meetings, 47-37.
Pasadena has advanced to the SoCal final for the eighth time in his history and extended a streak of now a fifth consecutive appearance in the match. The Lancers have won just one region title in 2010 and were CCCAA state runner-up that season.
San Diego City College went a perfect 8-0 in the PCAC season. Last year, the Knights downed the Lancers, 16-5, in the SoCal championship match on their way to the state title.
Coached by Bill Sanchez, the Lancers closed the conference season with a double-header victory at El Camino College Compton Center, winning by scores of 11-2 and 14-0, on April 26. PCC is led by defending state singles champion Angie Ortiz.
