Football QB Posthuma Goes Division I At Southeastern Louisiana
Justin Posthuma, a redshirt freshman quarterback on the 2012 Pasadena City College football team, is headed to NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University on a grant-in aid scholarship. Posthuma went through some highs and lows at PCC, originally joining the Lancers' program in 2011.
An All-CIF selection from St. Francis High, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound Posthuma joins the Lions' program as a sophomore with three seasons of collegiate eligibility. Southeastern Louisiana, located in Hammond, La., is a member of the Southland Conference.
Posthuma, who originally earned a scholarship to UCLA, never was better than in his collegiate debut on Sept. 3, 2011 as he helped PCC head coach Fred Fimbres and the Lancers down Glendale College, 49-28, in what was also Fimbres' first game directing the program.
Posthuma completed 18 of 22 passes for 323 yards and five touchdown strikes. He connected with wide receiver Jose Rodriguez for the longest pass play in PCC's 88-year history, a 96-yard TD pass. He was named the SCFA Offensive Player of the Week.
Unfortunately for Posthuma, he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in a week No. 2 loss to Allan Hancock. Posthuma received a medical redshirt and returned to be the slated starter for the 2012 Lancers, including making the cover of the Lancers' media guide.
In the '12 season opener, Posthuma hit 19 of 35 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in a loss at Citrus. Injuries again plagued Posthuma, but he would come back to lead PCC to a 17-9 victory at Golden West on Oct. 6. He completed 18 of 26 throws for 186 yards and gave the Lancers' the lead for good at 10-7 with a 17-yard TD pass to Tairen Owens late in the second quarter. That would be Posthuma's last big effort for the Lancers.
"We all know what kind of talent Justin is," Fimbres said. "The guy can sling it and he's capable of big things. He had to endure a lot to get back on to the field last year. Now, he's experienced and I think his PCC test will help him at Southeastern Lousiana. Even as a sophomore, he has a great shot at quickly moving up their depth chart."
