Laura Scudder Scholarship More information available

Description of Scholarship:


The Historical Society of Monterey Park is honoring the memory of Laura Scudder, a Monterey Park entrepreneur of potato chip fame, by awarding two (2) $3,000 scholarships to students who are pursuing their education in an institution of higher learning and are currently enrolled in a the field of nursing, culinary arts or business. In keeping with the spirit of Laura Scudder, john Scudder requires the recipients to attend an accredited community college/culinary school located in the San Gabriel Valley.


Education Qualifications:


1. Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year of basic education courses necessary for completion of his/her chosen filed at an institution of higher learning and all applicants must attend a community  college/culinary school located in the San Gabriel Valley and must have maintained or exceeded the equivalent of a "C" average. (Copy of Official Transcripts from applicant's current college must be provided with this application)


2. Must be a citizen of the United States.


3. Application must be accompanied by three (3) letters of recommendation from non-family members such as teachers, counselors;minister, employers or friends. One letter must be from a current instructor of the applicant.


Method of Selection:


The Laura Scudder Scholarship Committee of the Historical Society will act as judges and based on the submitted applications decide the winners and notify each finalist. If selected, each finalist will be required to attend the Laura Scudder Scholarship reception in person to receive the scholarship award.


Release of Scholarship Funds:


The amount of the scholarship will be awarded by the Historical Society to the recipients for educational expenses upon proof of enrollment in school and attendance in classes.


Notice:


Scholarship applications must be completed with all requested documents mailed under one cover and received by the mail on or before the deadline date of  Friday, May 3, 2013. No exceptions. Finalists will be notified of the time and date of the presentation of the awards. Please address all applications and mail to Marion Sumimoto, 1840 Orange Avenue, Monterey Park, CA 91755
