American Business Woman Association (ABWA) supports women throughout their careers by providing opportunities to hone leadership skills, access to unsurpassed professional development resources, and national recognition in the largest network of working women in the country.



You may enter information in the fields below and submit electronically. 

This scholarship application is proudly sponsored by Verdugo Glen Chapter, Glendale, CA.  Applicants who meet the attached eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.  Submissions due by February 15. 


1.         Attend school in Los Angeles County area.

 2.        College must be accredited.

3.         Principal residence in San Gabriel/San Fernando Valley areas.

4.         U.S. citizen

5.         Complete chapter application and submit photo.

6.         State reasons for attending college – Goals:

7.         Scholarship amounts are up to the following limits:

  1. $200 per year for a part time student having at least 6 units.

  2. $400 per year for a full time student attending a two year Community College, i.e., Glendale Community College and having 12 units or more per semester.

  3. $1,000 per year for a full time student attending a four year University or College and having 12 units or more per semester.

  4. $750 per year for a full time student in post-graduate studies.

  5. (Special situations will be considered).

Students must reapply each year and scholarship will only be awarded for a total of four years.

Scholastic standing:  2.5 or better on a 4.0 basis (grades for completed semester or year are required).

Scholarship to be used only for tuition, books, lab or equipment fees (receipts are required).

Personal interview required.

SCAG 2014 Scholarship More information available

Southern California Association of Governments

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Scholarship Program is designed to offer local government and planning experience that students can use to develop long-term career goals. The Scholarship will provide a $2,000 scholarship award for seven high school or community college students from the SCAG region and a two-week internship with a local planning agency, council of governments, or SCAG. Recipients will also have an opportunity to meet with their local government representatives and practicing planners to discuss the importance of urban planning and a future career in public service.


  • Residency: Must be a resident within the SCAG region (i.e., Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura County, or on Tribal Lands within the SCAG region), and be eligible to work in the United States. Students will be asked to submit proof of eligibility to work in the United States if selected as a semi-finalist.

  • School Enrollment: Must be a high school junior or graduating senior, or currently enrolled in a two-year community college in the SCAG region. Graduating seniors must enroll in higher education (two- or four-year college or university) immediately following graduation from high school (i.e., no gap year).

  • GPA Minimum: Candidates must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher (based on a 4.0, unweighted scale).

  • Internship Requirement: Selected applicants must be available for a two-week internship with a local planning agency (city or county), council of governments, or SCAG during Summer 2014. Internship assignments will be located as close as possible to the recipients’ place of residence. All recipients are expected to be available during normal office hours for the duration of the two-week internship assignment.

  • Visit to SCAG: Scholarship recipients will be required to attend a Regional Council meeting at the SCAG offices in downtown Los Angeles.

To apply for the SCAG Scholarship Program, students must submit:

  1. Completed application form.

  2. Five-hundred (500) word essay describing your interest in urban planning, public policy, and/or public service and future career goals.

  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, or employers (that are not related to you) attesting to leadership ability and public service interest.

  4. Transcript (official or copy) from the school in which you are currently enrolled.

Things to consider when applying:

  • Application packages that demonstrate an interest in urban planning, public policy and/or public service, and/or intended majors such as urban planning, environmental planning, engineering and/or political science, will be prioritized over application packages that do not.
