Association of Black Employees (TABE) Scholarship More information available

The application for the 36th annual scholarship from The Association of Black Employees (T.A.B.E.) of Pasadena City College recognizes students and members of the community for their hard work and achievements throughout the year. The application is available at: http://www.pasadena.edu/studentservices/financialaid/pdf/2014TABEapplication.pdf. It is open to students with the following qualifications:


  1. U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen

  2. Transfer or continuing student at Pasadena City College (PCC)

  3. Cumulative PCC grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above

  4. Completed 24 or more units at PCC


 Application Process


  1.  Complete the TABE Scholarship Application. Application must be typed online and printed. Do not download and handwrite application

  2. Compose a one to two-page typed personal statement describing your educational and career goals at PCC and any hardships or obstacles that you have overcome to achieve them


  • Describe your educational and career goals at PCC.


  • Describe your interaction with the African-American community in addition to your leadership and/or community service with the African-American community.


  • Given your personal background, explain how achieving your career goals will positively affect the African-American community



      3.  Two letters of recommendation from an instructor, counselor, or advisor


All materials must be post-marked by Tuesday April 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. and mailed/delivered to:

Ruth Valentine Returning Student Scholarship Award


Women in Action established the Returning Student Award in 1996, in honor of their deceased founding member Ruth Valentine. Ruth had a deep interest in working parents who made the decision to pursue their own development despite severe obstacles. The award is presented annually to under-represented working parents raising children who have chosen a career path and are enrolled at Pasadena City College or the Community Education Center, spring, 2014.


Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:


1. Working parent raising children.


2. Currently enrolled in Pasadena City College or the Community Skills Center.


3. Have been in attendance for no less than one year.


4. Maintaining a 2.0 or better grade point average. 


5. Write an essay demonstrating her personal efforts to redirect his/her life which includes career goals.

Deadline:  Tuesday, April 15. Applications will be picked up at 5 p.m. from L-114 and the PO Box. Late applications will not be considered.


The amount of the award; $1,000. Winners may be asked to attend a scholarship award luncheon.
