Description:

California strawberry growers offer scholarships to qualified applicants in each major strawberry-growing region of California: Watsonville/Salinas, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Orange County/San Diego and Fresno. Scholarship award values start at $200.00 and are applied toward full-time status at a four year college/university, junior college or accredited trade school. All scholarships are one-year allocations.

To apply, submit the following:

* Essay of no more than 1,000 words describing your educational and career goals
* Responses to 3 of 9 questions listed on the application
* Final high school transcript-including SAT or ACT scores
* Current official school transcript. Include official transcripts from any other colleges attended
* Two letters of recommendation. At least one of these must be submitted on school letterhead by an accredited teacher or counselor
* Employment Verification Form: to be completed by parents and employer in the strawberry industry (form attached to the application)

All materials are subject to verification by the California Strawberry Commission. Scholarships are then awarded to the students at luncheons held in the spring in each district.
