About CalWORKs

If you are currently receiving AFDC/TANF benefits, you are probably aware that California has a new welfare program called CalWORKs (California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids program). This new program sets strict limits on the total number of months you can receive welfare payments.

The purpose of the program is to help you get off welfare and find employment. You will have four weeks to look for a job. If you cannot find work, you will be referred to a "work preparation" activity, which might be an education/training program at a community college such as Pasadena City College.

The PCC CalWORKs Partnership

The PCC CalWORKs Partnership is a program to help you meet the L.A. County GAIN education/ training requirements and the federal "work activities" requirement under the new welfare rules. You will be enrolled in an approved education/ training program, work in a paid work/study job, and participate in job preparation workshops. Child care can be paid for during the time you are in school or working if you do not already have another source of payment.
