Network Infrastructure Upgrade Project

Project Overview

The Network Infrastructure Upgrade is one of the projects funded by the Measure P Bond.  The purpose of this project is to upgrade and modernize both the District’s data (wired and wireless) and voice systems.  A Request for Proposals was issued in September 2006 and after an extensive review of proposals, Verizon Business Services was selected to perform the specified work.

The final design of the new network infrastructure was a collaborative effort between the District and Verizon.  The design calls for upgrade to Cat6 wiring and a converged infrastructure for data and voice services, which means there will be a unified communication system to deliver email, voicemail, and fax.  The design also provides for a significant expansion of wireless access and video security systems.  In addition, the system was designed to provide redundancy so that the systems will be able to function even if one of two communication cores fails.
