The Pasadena City College women's basketball team entered its contest with rival and two-time defending state champion Mt. San Antonio in the role of favorite. But the state No. 3-ranked Lancers couldn't alter the recent trend of Mounties' success v. PCC. Rated No. 5, host Mt. SAC outlasted the Lancers, 65-61, to take over first place in the South Coast Conference North Division.

It was the seventh straight time that the Mounties defeated PCC since 2011 and fifth consecutive year that the Lancers lost the road matchup between the colleges.

PCC fell to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the SCC. Led by Tatyana Calhoun's double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, Mt. SAC improved to 15-4 and top the division at 3-0.

Lancers point guard Desiree Loving scored a game-high 18 points, including a nifty 10-for-12 from the free throw line, plus fours across in steals, assists and rebounds. No other PCC player scored in double figures. Center Kaitlyn Parks was held to four points and seven rebounds and sat nearly half of the game due to early foul trouble.

PCC led 33-28 at halftime, but traded leads with Mt. SAC 15 times before Calhoun sank two free throws with 59 seconds left. That gave the Mounties a 61-59 advantage. Trailing 63-61, the Lancers had a chance to tie it, but turned it over with 7.8 seconds remaining.

Skai Thompson and Tyler Crockom each tallied nine points and Kiara Phillips seven. Reserve center Bailey Williams picked up seven rebounds and four points.

PCC hosts Los Angeles Trade Tech this Friday, Jan. 17 in a 7 p.m. tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
