News: Public Comment On Proposed Instructional Division Alignment Options

On behalf of the College Council Planning and Priorities Standing Committee, we are pleased to announce an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on two recent proposals on the topic of instructional division alignment.

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the College Council Planning and Priorities Standing Committee, we are pleased to announce an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on two recent proposals on the topic of instructional division alignment.

On Tuesday, April 24th the Planning and Priorities Standing Committee will host a public comment opportunity where you will be able to share your thoughts on the two proposals.  The meeting will take place in the Creveling Lounge from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

There are two options for your consideration:

    Option One:

Continue the existing division structure.  Reappoint interim deans in Math and Visual Arts and Media Studies for an additional year.  Appoint interim deans for the Library, E&T, CEC, and Business and Computer Technology.  Reappoint Athletic Director.

This plan provides consistency across the College, management representatives for each area, and has worked for many years.  It also allows for implementation of pilot programs for alternative structures such as presented at the joint meeting of the two task force committees.

Option Two  - Interim Plan (attached):

Implement an interim reorganization subject to further study of other options (pilot programs for alternative structures) as the work of the Planning and Priorities Standing Committee continues to address retirements and the current fiscal situation.

This plan will help to move PCC towards a more student centric organizational structure while concurrently reducing the overhead costs of operating the college.  It also provides stability for the College while further changes are considered.  Option two addresses the CTE goals of the Educational Master Plan through the creation of a Business and Workforce Development Division.  An academic dean with expertise in the development and administration of career and technical programs will lead this Division.

Also attached is a copy of the Educational Master Plan Executive Summary.  We ask that you reference this document as you consider these two options.

We are particularly interested in receiving a position statement from the divisions who would be impacted by Interim Plan Option 2 and invite written comments.  Although all feedback is welcome, we would particularly appreciate if you addressed the following:

  1. Do you support the proposed change to your division outlined in Interim Plan Option 2. Why or why not?
  2. Do you have alternative suggestions for your division? What are they? Please provide a rationale for your suggestions.

Please forward this information to Beverly Tillman (BWTILLMAN@pasadena.edu). The next time the Planning & Priorities Standing Committee will meet to discuss the Interim Options is April 30th. Please keep this date in mind when preparing your feedback and allow time for distribution and review before the meeting.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope to see you on April 24th in the Creveling Lounge from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm.
